How it works

Point. Understand. Hand off.

One interaction, several useful outputs — not a toolbox of disconnected menus.

  1. 01

    Point

A button, a heading, a card. Hover to read live, or click to pin the element.

  2. 02

    Understand

Sizes, typography, colors, spacing, structure — computed by the browser, shown in one panel.

  3. 03

    Hand off

A compact Markdown or JSON context, previewed before you copy, ready to paste into your AI assistant.

What’s inside

Four sections, one panel

Inspect one element in depth, or switch to a whole-page view. Everything is computed locally in your browser.

Inspector

Pick any element and read what the browser actually rendered.

  • Hover mode follows your mouse; Click mode pins the element.
  • Overview, Layout, Style and Structure tabs with copyable values.
  • Hierarchy of the selection: parent and children, with relative positions.
  • “Prepare for AI” opens a “Before sending” preview of exactly what will be copied.

Code

The technical view of your selection.

  • Computed properties and CSS, ready to copy.
  • DOM tree of the selection, with a cleaned HTML skeleton on request.
  • Full AI context in Markdown, JSON, CSS or Specs.

Design

Discover a page’s visual system.

  • Colors: page palette by category, eyedropper, contrast check (AA / AAA), tokens as CSS variables, SCSS, Tailwind or JSON.
  • Typography: font stacks, confirmed font sources, sizes and weights, “What font is this?” on any text.
  • Measure: pick a reference element, hold Alt to see gaps to other elements, in px or rem.
  • Capture: element, free region, visible screen or full page, as PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF.

Figma export: coming soon.

Assets

Every image, SVG, icon, background and video on the page.

  • Filter and search media; open any asset for its sizes, source and usage.
  • Copy an image, its URL (tokens and signatures removed) or an SVG as markup, JSX or data URI.
  • Save the original file or export a selection as a ZIP — within the page’s own CORS rules.

AI-ready context

Context your assistant can actually use

SpecMiru builds a deterministic, compact description of what you selected. No AI model runs inside the extension, and nothing is sent to one: you choose where to paste it.

  • Compact or Detailed, in Markdown, JSON, CSS or Specs.
  • Optional visible text, parent context, child elements, cleaned HTML and element capture.
  • Your own instruction, added before you copy.
  • Preview with a size counter and a 128 KiB copy limit.
  • Emails and probable tokens masked; form values never read.

Display modes

Overlay or Docked — your choice

Overlay

SpecMiru floats above the page in an isolated panel. The page keeps its width and breakpoints. Move it left or right, collapse it, resize it from 320 to 720 px.

Docked

SpecMiru opens in Chrome’s side panel, next to the page. The page becomes narrower.

Open SpecMiru with . Press again to start inspecting.

Local-first

Your pages stay on your device

SpecMiru inspects pages inside your browser. The DOM, text, styles, URLs, screenshots, assets and AI instructions you work with never leave your device.

Minimal permissions: activeTab, scripting, sidePanel and storage. No access to all websites at install.

Read the privacy policy

Always local

  • Inspected content: DOM, HTML, text, selectors, styles, colors, fonts
  • Page URLs, screenshots and assets
  • Your AI instructions and copied context

Only with your explicit consent

  • Anonymous usage statistics during the beta (off until you opt in)
  • Feedback you choose to send — page URL, screenshot or diagnostic only if you switch each one on

Who it’s for

Made for people who build interfaces

  • Front-end developers

Check computed values, spacing and structure, then hand a precise context to your coding assistant.

  • Designers

Audit colors, contrast, type scales and spacing on any live page.

  • AI-assisted builders

Describe a UI to an AI with real values instead of screenshots and guesses.

Frequently asked questions

Does SpecMiru send the pages I inspect anywhere?

No. Inspection happens in your browser and the inspected content never leaves your device. The only network traffic the extension can make is optional, anonymous usage statistics, off until you explicitly opt in, which never include page content or URLs.

Which permissions does it need?

activeTab (access to the tab only when you invoke SpecMiru), scripting (to inject its local inspector after you ask), sidePanel (Docked mode) and storage (your preferences and the current selection). One host permission exists for the opt-in statistics endpoint. There is no access to all websites at install.

Can it inspect any page?

Most web pages, yes. Chrome does not allow extensions on its internal pages (chrome://), its settings or the Chrome Web Store. Content inside cross-origin frames cannot be entered.

Does it use AI?

No model runs inside SpecMiru and it does not call any AI service. It produces a deterministic context that you paste wherever you want.

How do I open it?

Click the SpecMiru icon in the toolbar, or press Alt+Shift+S. Press again to start inspecting. The shortcut can be changed in Chrome’s keyboard shortcuts settings.

Is there a Figma integration?

Not yet. Sending design tokens to Figma is marked “Coming soon” in the extension.
